Across the country, ICE has caused irreparable harm by carrying out aggressive and unlawful actions in communities across the country, including most recently in Texas and Maine. The senseless deaths of individuals across the country demand leaders who will stand up and call out these atrocities as they all too often take place. As these horrific actions are being carried out by the Trump administration, both Republican candidates for governor continue to support this dangerous agenda of cruelty.
Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve have made their position clear: they back ICE’s unlawful and dangerous tactics, and if elected governor, both candidates would cooperate with ICE, bringing that same fear into our communities and putting families at risk.

Minogue has said publicly that he wants to cooperate with ICE.
Minogue has said that he believes ICE is following the lawas communities across the country watch agents in their communities, committing acts of violence against innocent people.
Shortsleeve’s campaign has explicitly stated that he will cooperate with ICE and send them into places like courthouses if elected Governor.
“While every day we see communities being terrorized by ICE, often resulting in violence, Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve are doubling down on Trump’s cruel agenda,” said MassDems Executive Director Adam Roof. “This pivotal moment in our nation’s history demands leaders like, Governor Healey, who are committed to holding ICE accountable and keeping our neighborhoods safe. The Republican candidates owe voters an explanation as to why they are standing with a President and an agency that is destroying families and enacting violence against innocent people.”
In contrast to her GOP opponents, Governor Maura Healey is working to protect Massachusetts communities and hold ICE accountable. She has proposed some of the strongest protections in the country, including banning ICE from entering schools, hospitals, child care facilities, places of worship, and other non-public spaces and proposing a ban on other states sending their National Guard to Massachusetts communities. Additionally, Governor Healey has banned the use of state property by ICE for enforcement operations, established a state portal for residents to safely report ICE misconduct, opposed the opening of new ICE detention centers.
