BOSTON – Today, as Governor Healey announces nation-leading steps to protect our communities, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan released the following statement calling out the Republican candidates for Governor on their refusal to meaningfully denounce ICE:
“This is a moment that calls for moral clarity and leadership. Under the direction of Donald Trump, ICE is terrorizing communities and disregarding due process. While Governor Healey is taking nation-leading steps to protect our communities, Brian Shortsleeve, Mike Kennealy, and Mike Minogue refuse to meaningfully oppose Trump’s harmful policies. Why won’t they even support Governor Healey’s legislation to protect people from ICE?
“Voters deserve a governor willing to stand up to an agency that has been acting out of control. It shouldn’t be hard to denounce violence, demand accountability, and commit to protecting Massachusetts families. Yet fear of losing favor with Donald Trump has stopped all GOP candidates for governor yet again from showing any sense of compassionate leadership.
“Maura Healey will never stay silent and she’ll never stop working to make our Commonwealth safe. She can always be trusted to take action, stand up to bullies, and show compassion. In times of crisis, we need her steady hand, not the cowardice we see from her opponents.”
