Worcester, MA – This Saturday, the Massachusetts Republican Party's extremism and dysfunction were on full display with nonstop fawning and tributes to Donald Trump. From delegates dancing to Donald Trump clips on the big screen to booths selling pro-Trump merchandise, the Convention demonstrated that the Mass GOP has been taken over by MAGA extremists. After all the chaos, the Republican delegates nominated the two most extreme candidates on the ballot, Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve.
Mike Minogue has a lengthy track record of supporting Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans, including hosting a high-dollar fundraiser at his home for JD Vance and donating nearly $1 million to Trump, Vance, and MAGA Republicans in 2024 alone. He is openly anti-abortion rights and even bragged about it during his video at the convention. Minogue has repeatedly expressed support for Trump’s ICE agents who are separating parents from their children and making Massachusetts communities less secure. He has poured millions into conservative organizations and institutions focused on attacking reproductive health care and LGBTQ+ rights. He claims he wants to operate Massachusetts the way he ran his company Abiomed, which was plagued by product recalls that endangered patients, lawsuits, and claims of kickbacks involving lavish dinners.
Brian Shortsleeve is just as vocal in his support for Trump and ICE. He has proudly claimed that no one has done more for the Republican Party in the last 30 years than him, which is why he’s earned the endorsement of local and national MAGA, anti-abortion diehards like Senators Tom Cotton, Tom Young, and Rick Scott. As acting manager of the MBTA, Slowzone Shortsleeve was responsible for laying off thousands of workers while neglecting to keep track of basic maintenance, leading to failures that endangered both riders and workers while never delivering the savings he promised. His tenure at the agency allowed the creation of 220 slow zones and devastated the MBTA for years until Governor Healey turned it around in her first term.
As the Republican candidates pledge to work with Trump to bring an agenda of high prices and chaos to Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll are working every day to lower costs on housing, energy, and health care, while making transformative investments in public transportation and education. They are the only ticket that will stand up to President Trump, protect your right to reproductive care, and actually work to lower costs for residents and businesses.
