Kerrigan was elected Chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party in April 2023. He has dedicated his life to public service, from local government to the State House and the halls of Congress. Steve currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center. Prior to joining Kennedy Community Health, Steve was the Principal of the Kilgeever Consulting Group, a public affairs firm that focused on government relations, business development and management consulting. Steve’s career in government and service stretches nearly three decades, from working as a key aide to Senator Edward M. Kennedy to his current position as an elected member of the Select Board in Lancaster. In 2014, Steve was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, earning more than 220,000 votes throughout the Commonwealth. His record of service to the Democratic Party and the nation is extensive. He served as Chief Executive Officer for the Democratic National Committee Convention in Charlotte in 2012 and Barack Obama’s Presidential Inaugural Committee in 2013 (and was chief of staff for his first inauguration in 2009). More recently, Steve serves as treasurer of the national board of Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America). In Massachusetts, he was chief of staff to both Boston’s Host Committee for the 2004 Democratic National Convention and Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly. In 2009, Steve was a driving force in the establishment of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund to support the families of fallen service members. The fund has raised more than $2 million in support of Massachusetts military families and provides a stirring reminder of the sacrifices these men and women have made through the annual Memorial Day flag garden on Boston Common and the September 11th Service Program. A graduate of Saint John’s High School and the University of Maryland, Steve lives in Lancaster with his husband, Jacob. ###### Get to know ## Our Staff #### Adam Roof ###### executive director **As Executive Director, Adam brings more than a decade of political management experience to the day-to-day operations of the MassDems. ** #### Nigel S ###### Director of party affairs #### Alex ###### Deputy Executive Director #### Tyler C ###### operations manager #### Caroline W ###### organizing director #### Laura G ###### Communications Director View More ###### Get in touch with the team by emailing [contact@massdems.org.](mailto:contact@massdems.org) --- ## Our Platform URL: https://www.massdems.org/our-platform # Our Platform Sign Up for Updates ## Massachusetts Democratic Party 2025 Platform **Our Party Platform is a statement of our shared values that outlines the ideals, policies, and solutions that will guide our Party for years to come. ** Every four years, the Massachusetts Democratic Party produces a new platform serving as a guide for Democratic activists, candidate and political leaders. In the wake of Republican gains in Massachusetts in the 2024 election, Party Chair Steve Kerrigan launched a wide-ranging listening tour - in all nine Congressional districts to - to ask local Democrats about their priorities. The Platform Committee held five hearings and solicited written testimony to determine priorities for the the 2025 platform. A decisive majority underscored the need for more emphasis on working people: more jobs, more job security, more training opportunities, higher wages.** ** The proposed Massachusetts Democratic Platform reflected those goals, as well as strong support for civil and human rights; equality for LGBTQ+ residents; accessible, affordable health care, housing and education; protecting Massachusetts immigrant community; and expanding public transportation.** ** At the Platform Convention in Springfield, on September 13th, delegates committed to the 2021 platform offered a number of amendments and voted to retain much of the 2021 platform.** ** The current 2025 Platform may be viewed below. ** ** The Massachusetts Democratic Party encourages discussion and debate. At the same time, now, more than ever before in the history of our republic, Democrats need to become more actively engaged in working together to expand our Democratic voter turnout and protect our democracy.** ** Onward together! [Click Here: 2025 Party Platform.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W8t8PU2-S9Vi0kOIitWri-Js3Hu_S4ex/view?usp=sharing) ## As Massachusetts Democrats, we believe: On September 13th, 2025, Massachusetts Democrats gathered at a time of the greatest Constitutional challenge in our lifetimes. Many Americans have lost faith in our government and trust in our institutions. Younger generations struggle to believe in a brighter future. Far too many feel left behind, forgotten, and oppressed. As a result, Americans have turned to a President whose impulse is not to heal divisions, but to exacerbate them. Rather than inspire hope, he chooses to inflame resentments. He flouts the rule of law while a Republican Congress allows him to abuse time-tested constitutional principles of checks and balances and separation of powers, all to satisfy his hunger to amass unprecedented autocratic power. In any ordinary time, our State Party would come together to celebrate our collective successes, both at the ballot box and in enacting progressive policies that have expanded rights and moved our Commonwealth forward. We are grateful for the trust the voters have placed in our candidates here at home, and we are deeply in touch with the obligations of such trust. But this is no ordinary time. We convene with deep concern and a keen appreciation that past successes are no guarantee of the public’s future approval. From our elected leaders to our grassroots activists, we commit sincerely and wholeheartedly to listening to the people, because their interests are our interests, and we are committed to taking the actions necessary and appropriate to renew their trust and continue to earn their support.** ** We do so steadfast in our belief that our Party’s principles and politics are aligned with those of our people. Massachusetts values are Democratic values.** ** As we mark the 250th anniversary of Massachusetts' fight for independence, we, as Democrats, redouble our commitment to human rights and civil rights for all people. Massachusetts gave the United States the first Constitution, the first framework for democracy. We were the first state to guarantee that health care is universal and that love is too. We will always fight to defend the Constitution, the rule of law, and First Amendment guarantees of freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. We believe that each of us has the right to be who we are, believe what we believe, love who we love, say what we think, and live free from fear and repression. We are committed to promoting full participation of people in society of every racial, sexual, social, economic, geographic group, and beyond.** ** We will always support the rights of Native Americans who founded the first communities in Massachusetts and gave the Commonwealth its name. We stand by the contributions of African Americans, whose sacrifices and role in building this nation must never be forgotten. As Democrats, we remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing racial justice as a foundational principle that must inform every aspect of our policies, from education and healthcare to housing, the environment, and economic opportunity. As Massachusetts Democrats, we recognize the debt we owe to veterans and to seniors, and now, when the current Administration is abandoning them, we pledge to support and advocate for them. As the current Administration becomes increasingly punitive, Massachusetts has been and continues to be a leader in criminal justice reform, providing legal assistance to those who need it and promoting a range of restorative justice options, especially for young offenders.** ** In addition to Massachusetts’ incomparable contribution to education, the Commonwealth has been a nurturing place and destination for art, music, theatre, writers, libraries, and museums. As Democrats, we are committed to the truth of our history, and we will protect and advance arts and culture throughout Massachusetts. ** ** As Democrats, we are committed to making Massachusetts a place that people can afford to call home. We believe in addressing the affordability crisis facing so many of our families by bringing down costs and expanding economic opportunity for people wherever they live in the Commonwealth. Healthy public revenues and untold wealth in certain sectors should not obscure the fact that prosperity remains just out of reach for many, when families struggle to pay the rent, buy a house, heat their homes, or hire child care. We all benefit from dynamic investment in our economy, guaranteeing sustainable living wages and protections for wage-earners while supporting local businesses that drive our economy and help build our future.** ** As Democrats, we advocate for more affordable housing throughout the Commonwealth. Creating a sufficient number of affordable homes is an ongoing challenge in our state. Massachusetts is a great place to be, and people want to live here to take advantage of all we have to offer. That demand has had a significant impact on the cost of housing. Meeting our housing needs is essential in promoting the quality of life and the economic health of our state. We support eliminating barriers to new investments in housing that is more affordable and accessible to all.** ** As Democrats, in the birthplace of public education, we will work to ensure that every child has access to a comprehensive, high-quality education and that educational opportunities include both academic and technical options. Massachusetts is the center of the academic universe for students from around the nation and the world, who contribute to our vitality and innovation. In a rapidly evolving technical and academic world, we must press and work for a higher quality of education everywhere, in every community: urban, suburban, and rural.** ** As Democrats, we believe that accessible, affordable health care is a basic human right. In the face of dramatic cuts in federal health care funding, we will work to guarantee that all residents have access to health care and support initiatives that expand care. Massachusetts has been the focus of major advances in health research. These achievements have been of incalculable benefit to our nation and humankind. At the same time, they served as a principal driver of our state’s economy. We join with the Commonwealth’s fight to restore the funding on which human lives and our research centers depend.** ** As Democrats, we believe in leaving future generations an environment that is cleaner and safer. Environmental justice and climate change impact every Massachusetts resident and every living creature. Massachusetts Democrats commit to taking responsibility to work within our communities, as well as with state and national leaders, to expand measures that protect the environment and reduce the dangers of pollution.** ** Now, as never before, as a Party and as individuals, we are united in preserving, protecting, and expanding the rights of all people. Notwithstanding the unique history and experiences of Indigenous and African American people, most of us are descendants of immigrants or are immigrants. As such, we embrace the challenges facing people who were not born in the U.S., but who live, work, and raise their families here in the Commonwealth. As a nation of immigrants, we support expanding legal pathways for those not born in the United States who choose to come to the Commonwealth in search of a better life, and support full integration, protection, and opportunity for our immigrant neighbors. Massachusetts Democrats assert their commitment to strengthening local and state laws protecting immigrants who are our neighbors, who work hard and abide by our laws.** ** As Democrats, we are committed to preserving and strengthening voting rights for all citizens. While the current Republican administration is threatening the right to vote, we believe that every citizen has the right to vote and that voter registration and voting should be easily accessible in a variety of ways and settings, including mail-in voting. As Democrats, we will fight to preserve open elections in our communities, in the Commonwealth, and in the nation. As Democrats, we believe that public transportation is one of the necessities of healthy and thriving community life. The first means of public transportation began in Boston in 1630 with the first ferry system. Since that time, we have learned that public transportation is critical to the environment, the economy, education, and accessibility throughout the Commonwealth. As Massachusetts Democrats, we will redouble efforts to expand and improve public transportation across the Commonwealth, in urban, suburban, and rural communities. ** ** As Democrats, we believe that community safety is a shared responsibility rooted in fairness, trust, and respect for human dignity. Safety is not achieved by fear or force, but by building strong relationships between communities and the institutions entrusted with protecting them. We are committed to approaches that prevent harm, address its root causes, ensure justice is applied equitably, and uphold the rights of all people.** ** Democracy and democratic principles are being threatened as never before in modern history. Massachusetts Democrats are united in ensuring that all our residents are safe, protected by the rule of law, and benefit from economic opportunity, education, health care, housing, and a safe environment. In these next four years, Massachusetts Democrats will work together, united in the fight to defend the rights we have secured, prepared to defend our shared values and principles, and determined to protect all that is at risk under the current Republican administration. --- ## Elected Officials URL: https://www.massdems.org/elected-officials # Our Elected Officials Sign Up for Updates ## Congressional Delegation #### Elizabeth Warren ###### senator #### Ed Markey ###### senator #### Richard Neal ###### representative, cd-01 #### Jim McGovern ###### representative, cd-2 #### Lori Trahan ###### representative, cd-03 #### Jake Auchincloss ###### representative, cd-04 #### Katherine Clark ###### minority whip, cd-05 #### Seth Moulton ###### Representative, cd-06 #### Ayanna Pressley ###### representative, cd-07 #### Stephen Lynch ###### Representative, cd-08 #### William Keating ###### Representative, cd-09 **Elizabeth Warren** senator Description goes here **Ed Markey** senator Description goes here **Richard Neal** representative, cd-01 Description goes here **Jim McGovern** representative, cd-2 Description goes here **Lori Trahan** representative, cd-03 Description goes here **Jake Auchincloss** representative, cd-04 Description goes here **Katherine Clark** assistant speaker of the house, cd-05 Description goes here **Seth Moulton** Representative, cd-06 Description goes here **Ayanna Pressley** representative, cd-07 Description goes here **Stephen Lynch** Representative, cd-08 Description goes here **William Keating** Representative, cd-09 Description goes here View More ## Constitutional Officers #### Maura Healey ###### Governor #### Kim Driscoll ###### Lt. A more detailed guide can be found [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bPdyNWKUcTLXhDLFJ62dp54t9NfVUGyPsX2LJ5U0Pfg/edit?usp=sharing), but here’s what you need to know when it comes to scheduling, planning, and running your meeting: ## **Step 1. Give members plenty of notice.** Let folks know about your meeting at least 7 days in advance and post the details of the meeting publicly. Email your membership and don’t be afraid to follow up with a phone call the day before the meeting. You can find an example of a public notice [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bPdyNWKUcTLXhDLFJ62dp54t9NfVUGyPsX2LJ5U0Pfg/edit?usp=sharing). ## **Step 2. Choose your conferencing tool.** From [Zoom.us](http://Zoom.us) to UberConference, there are many different tools you can use to host your meetings. The most important things? **Make sure the tool allows for phone participation and allows the organizer to mute and unmute participants. If you do use an option that allows computer/visual participation, choose one that allows the participant to register by name. ** Zoom is one of MassDems’ go-to tools: - Free for up to 100 participants but limited to 40 minutes at a time - Paid accounts are $14.99/ month - Administered on computer through the Zoom app - Participants can dial in or join through the computer - Register participants ahead of time through email or Google calendar invite. A list of more options can be found [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bPdyNWKUcTLXhDLFJ62dp54t9NfVUGyPsX2LJ5U0Pfg/edit?usp=sharing). ## **Step 3. Ask for help.** **Most importantly: test, test, test**. Make sure you know how the tool works before you start your meeting. Take time to familiarize yourself with the functions, and try to troubleshoot any difficulties ahead of time. Set up a trial conference with your family or friends beforehand or invite members to a pre-call to work out the kinks and give people information about how the meeting will work. It’s difficult to manage participants and run the meeting at the same time. We recommend that you recruit two volunteers to help with the technical aspects of the call. These volunteers should be in charge of muting and unmuting speakers, communicating with members who are having technical difficulties, and maintaining your roll and tracking votes during balloting. Share a separate phone number that invited members can call or text if they are having problems logging/dialing in. ## **Step 4. Set the rules and agenda.** In advance of your meeting, send members the meeting agenda and the rules for the call. Additionally, you should: - Let them know how virtual participation tools will work, including how to mute and unmute themselves, and ask questions. - Inform them that you’ll be taking a roll call vote, so it’s important that they register using their full name, and that their vote will be public. - Provide the contact information of your volunteers, and instruct members to call them if they have any technical difficulties registering, joining the call, or during the meeting. ## **Step 5. Start your call!** Here are our pro-tips for hosting an online meeting: - Start your call 10-15 minutes before your scheduled start time to greet folks as they hop on and give yourself time to sort out technical difficulties. - Begin the meeting by muting all participants, or instructing them to mute themselves. - Explain the process of the call, the agenda, how you’ll take votes, and how participants can unmute themselves and ask questions. - Offer the phone number of your volunteers in case there are technical difficulties. - Make sure you speak slowly, clearly, and repeat any important information. Votes should be repeated back fully with the voters name and vote: **Chair**: Erin Smith, you may vote for 3 attendees: 1 male, 1 female and one of any gender. How do you vote? **Erin**: I vote for Mike, Sally and Jessica **Chair**: Erin Smith votes for Mike Rushing, Sally Murphy and Jessica Simons. Is that correct? **Erin**: Yes. **Chair**: Thank you. Phil Smith, you may vote for 3 attendees: 1 male, 1 female and one of any gender. How do you vote? - Call on voters in an expected and regular way, we recommend alphabetically. - End your call by reiterating the phone numbers of your tech volunteer so people can report any technical issues they may have had. ## **Step 6. Follow up.** Don’t forget to follow up with members after the call! Email or call people and reconfirm the results, repeat any important information, and ask for feedback! Fortunately for Bay Staters, they have Governor Healey, the only candidate who will stand up to Trump and deliver real results to lower costs, protect your rights, and ensure that the people of Massachusetts have a governor that represents their values. Governor Healey is building new housing units to make owning a home more affordable, with 100,000 new homes already in progress, and she banned broker fees for renters. She is cutting charges on your gas and electric bills, and has filed legislation to save ratepayers $13 billion. She made more affordable and accessible health care by eliminating prior authorization and capping copays and deductibles so you can get the care you need. She signed some of the strongest reproductive rights protections in the country with the SHIELD Act, protected your right to get vaccinated when Trump and RFK Jr. tried to cut off access, and she is banning ICE from using state property and from operating in or near vital community spaces like courthouses, schools, and places of worship. **Try as they might to hide it, but it’s crystal-clear: Republicans are working for Trump, Governor Healey is working for *you.*** ### **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## News: Boston Globe Exposes MAGA Mike Minogue $31 Million Mansion in “Ultra-Exclusive Montana Enclave” URL: https://www.massdems.org/news/boston-globe-exposes-maga-mike-minogue-31-million-mansion-in-ultra-exclusive-montana-enclave #### Minogue previously tried to hide details about home and now refuses to answer questions**.** Today, the Boston Globe exposed MAGA Mike Minogue for concealing his Montana estate worth over $30 million. After all the chaos, the Republican delegates nominated the two most extreme candidates on the ballot, Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve. Mike Minogue has a lengthy track record of supporting Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans, including hosting a high-dollar fundraiser at his home for JD Vance and donating nearly $1 million to Trump, Vance, and MAGA Republicans in 2024 alone. He is openly anti-abortion rights and even bragged about it during his video at the convention. Minogue has repeatedly expressed support for Trump’s ICE agents who are separating parents from their children and making Massachusetts communities less secure. He has poured millions into conservative organizations and institutions focused on attacking reproductive health care and LGBTQ+ rights. He claims he wants to operate Massachusetts the way he ran his company Abiomed, which was plagued by product recalls that endangered patients, lawsuits, and claims of kickbacks involving lavish dinners. Brian Shortsleeve is just as vocal in his support for Trump and ICE. He has proudly claimed that no one has done more for the Republican Party in the last 30 years than him, which is why he’s earned the endorsement of local and national MAGA, anti-abortion diehards like Senators Tom Cotton, Tom Young, and Rick Scott. As acting manager of the MBTA, Slowzone Shortsleeve was responsible for laying off thousands of workers while neglecting to keep track of basic maintenance, leading to failures that endangered both riders and workers while never delivering the savings he promised. His tenure at the agency allowed the creation of 220 slow zones and devastated the MBTA for years until Governor Healey turned it around in her first term. As the Republican candidates pledge to work with Trump to bring an agenda of high prices and chaos to Massachusetts, Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll are working every day to lower costs on housing, energy, and health care, while making transformative investments in public transportation and education. They are the only ticket that will stand up to President Trump, protect your right to reproductive care, and actually work to lower costs for residents and businesses. **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## News: Donald Trump Loves Inflation… Do Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve? They refuse to denounce Trump’s tariffs that are increasing the cost of everything, ICE’s tactics that are separating families and making our communities less safe, or Republicans’ efforts to kick hundreds of thousands of Massachusetts residents off their health care. There is a clear choice in this race between Governor Healey, who has always put the people of Massachusetts first, and a rubber stamp on Donald Trump.” ### **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## News: Statement on GOP Convention Results URL: https://www.massdems.org/news/statement-on-gop-convention-results PRESS Statement **BOSTON – **Statement from Steve Kerrigan, Chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party: "Massachusetts Republicans today rallied behind the two most extreme, pro-Trump candidates for Governor. Mike Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve both back Donald Trump and his agenda of chaos and high prices – supporting ICE, opposing women’s reproductive rights, and making life more expensive for people across our state. Voters already know they are too MAGA for Massachusetts. And after this embarrassment of a convention, it’s more clear than ever that Governor Healey and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll are the ticket that’s focused on lowering the cost of housing, energy and health care, and they’re the only candidates who will stand up to Trump’s harmful policies.” ### **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## News: GOP Candidates Plans to Weaken Our Energy Grid and Drive Up Rates URL: https://www.massdems.org/news/gop-candidates-plans-to-weaken-our-energy-grid-and-drive-up-rates PRESS Statement **BOSTON – **Today, as Governor Healey took bold steps to increase energy resources for our communities, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan released the following statement calling out the Republican candidates' plans to weaken our grid and drive up rates:** ** "The Republican candidates for Governor are making clear that they stand with Donald Trump and his disastrous energy policy. Just like President Trump, they want to take American sources of energy like wind and solar off the table, killing jobs and increasing costs in the process. Governor Healey is the only candidate in this race who is embracing an all-of-the-above approach to energy and taking action to increase supply and lower energy bills.” ### **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## News: MassGOP Statewide Candidates Removed from Primary Ballot after Signature Fraud Confirmed URL: https://www.massdems.org/news/massgop-statewide-candidates-removed-from-primary-ballot-after-signature-fraud-confirmed PRESS Statement *Steve Kerrigan, Chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party:* “Today's Ballot Law Commission ruling represents a landmark victory for voting rights and democratic participation across the Commonwealth. At a time when voting rights are under attack across our country, this decision sends a clear message: in Massachusetts, the right of every eligible citizen to cast a ballot, regardless of party affiliation, will be protected, defended, and upheld. “Thousands of Massachusetts residents had their names used without their knowledge and without their consent in a deliberate effort to sneak GOP candidates for statewide office, Anne Manning Martin and Michael Walsh, onto the September primary ballot. That is voter fraud, plain and simple.” *Adam Roof, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Democratic Party:* “Anne Manning Martin and Michael Walsh sought to distance themselves by pointing to a third-party vendor they hired. Massachusetts voters deserve better than that. Accountability does not end with a subcontractor. These candidates were warned by local clerks that something was wrong, and they submitted the signature sheets to the Secretary of State's office anyway. They made a choice. Moreover, they chose to throw the entire force of their legal teams to argue that the cases be dismissed based on a technicality instead of defending their actions and seeking vindication. They know they would not have prevailed if the merits of the case were presented. “This wasn’t a paperwork error. It was a deliberate attempt to game the system. If you break the rules to get on the ballot, you can’t be trusted to serve. No candidate is above the rules. “The thousands of residents whose names were fraudulently used, many of whom may not even know it happened, received justice with today’s decision. While the system worked today, it should never have been tested. “We thank the Ballot Law Commission for their time and their service to this process.” **If you want to link an external news source,** open up the accordion for this item on the sidebar and switch the Post Publishing Setting to “Custom Link”. --- ## Footer **Born** Categories can be edited in the sidebar **Raised** Put where you grew up here **Married** Put year here **Children** List children and maybe their ages **Party** Put party here **Education** Put degree and school here
