WINCHESTER DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE
Minutes – Meeting of May 7, 2008
Attending: Nancy Isaac, Jim Herbert, Jane Murray, Maddy Lord, Charlie Gillis, Tom Gosnell, Tom Murdock, Gloria Legvold, Elena Gjosteva and Bob Colt
A Motion to accept the minutes of last meeting was approved.
Treasurers Report: Right now in the bank we have approximately $3100.00. We had a profit of 799.05 for the Unity Rally. We will be making donations of $250.00 to the Mass Democratic Party, and will spend approximately $750.00 to pay for people attending the Convention in June. We will probably be making contributions also to Jason Lewis and Pat Jehlen.
Bob Colt said that he was very pleased to see many new faces at the Unity Rally. Also Pat Jehlen’s talk was appreciated. Bob threw out a trial balloon for a fundraiser in late October. Bob will suggest a date at the next meeting. We must not forget Jin Herbert’s birthday on October 7th. Nancy Isaac tentatively offered her house for use as an election night venue to cheer Democratic Candidates to victory.
Town Day is June 7th. I will be the point person for this. Tentatively we will have several items to raffle. Bob and DeVallon have offered copies of their books, we are also going to raffle a “Gallon of Gas”. Maddy is looking into getting buttons made up or purchasing, saying 1/20/2009!!. We are also going to be selling light bulbs as a fundraiser.
Pat Jehlen and Jason Lewis are tentatively going to be spending time at our booth during the day. I will be sending emails requesting donations for Town day, we will discuss the wording at the next meeting. Please see the attached spreadsheet so you can sign up to help person the booth.
The State Convention is the same day. we will have several members attending. Kerry and O’Reilly are running for the U.S. Senate. Jim Ogonowski is running as a Republican.
Tom brought up the fact that there is a ballot question to repeal the state income tax. It received 45% of the vote in 2000. His union will be spending a substantial amount of money in an effort to defeat this amendment.
Our next meeting is 6/4/08.
WINCHESTER DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE
Minutes – Meeting of April 3, 2008
Attending: DeVallon Bolles, Margot Sudbury, Madeline Lord, Barbara Emeneau, Elena Ggostjeva, Nancy Isaac, Charlie Gillis, Jane Murray, Rick Goldberg, Jean Herbert, Jim Herbert.
As of this date our treasury has a balance of approximately $3600.00
A suggestion was made for us to consider allocating money for the Democratic Regional Breakfast in Wakefield. We will consider this at the next meeting.
Bob Colt asked us all for our support in his and Kim’s quest to become a Barak Obama delegate at the National Democratic Convention this Saturday in Lexington. Tom is also running as Clinton delegate the same day in Woburn.
There was much discussion about the coming Unity Rally at Sanborn House. We finalized plans to hire a bartender, and which people would provide food.
Also, I brought up how I have had loyal democrats mention to me when I was inviting people to the rally, that they would rather vote for McCain that the loser of the Clinton-Obama primary. Much discussion ensued; Rick suggested that we get the article from the Boston Globe the previous Saturday emphasizing the real differences between McCain and any democrat. I will have a reprint at the next meeting.
Plans for Town Day were discussed; we still need a point person to coordinate everything.
We adjourned after setting the next meeting for 5/7/08 in the Meeting Room at the Winchester Public Library.
