VOLUNTEER OFFICE INTERNSHIP: Volunteer Intern responsibilities and activities include but are not limited to:
CONSTITUENT SERVICES: Act as a resource to every Democratic town, ward, and city committee, State Committee members and interested citizens, complete constituent mailings, perform computer data maintenance and inputting, answer telephones and provide general communication with the public.
ANNUAL STATE CONVENTION: Convention planning and operational assistance, organization of Rules, Site Selection, Platform and other convention committees, coordination of local caucuses, delegate tracking, security and press operations.
FUNDRAISING: Assist with day-to-day financial operations, assist with planning and operations for Annual Dinner (high dollar fundraiser) and other fundraisers, assist with operations at fundraisers for the Party and candidates throughout Massachusetts .
COMMUNICATIONS: Write and edit press releases and letters to the editor, newsletters and fact sheets, distribute information through press drops and State House drops, promote Party and Party leaders, facilitate communications with town and ward committees across the state.
COORDINATED CAMPAIGN: Assistance to candidates, voter history and opposition research, visibility activities, phone banking, polling, general campaign work. The Coordinated Campaign is the combined reelection effort of the entire Democratic ticket.
REQUIREMENTS:
- It is expected that interns will be motivated, responsible, and professional
- Internships are generally 3 months long, full and part time, available year round
- College credit is available; approximately 15 hours per week required for credit
- An interview and resume are required
- Campaign experience and political science majors are preferred but not required
- All internships are unpaid; further information about Farmer Fund Internship Program (paid summer internship for one female and one male) is available from the Party office.

SCHOLARSHIP AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
We are pleased that you are considering applying for a scholarship or summer internship through the Massachusetts Democratic Party. The Party offers two opportunities for your consideration.
To be eligible for either opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:
Be a Massachusetts resident
Currently enrolled in a college or university in the United States
Be entering into your third or fourth year of college study in the fall of 2007 with a GPA of 3.0 or better
Be 18- 23 years of age by September 1, 2007
Complete the entire application and submit the required materials
The John F. Kennedy Scholarship will be awarded in May at the Democratic State Convention in Amherst . The award of $1,500 will be credited toward your fall 2007 semester. One male and one female student will be chosen.
Another great opportunity is the John Joseph Moakley Democratic Internship . A grant of $2,500 is offered for a ten-week political internship with the Massachusetts Democratic Party. You will work at the State Party Headquarters with a member of the staff to assist the State Party further its mission and programs.
