Greetings Massachusetts democrats:

This year, as we embark on drafting a new Massachusetts Democratic Party Platform, we are expanding grassroots opportunities to participate in the process. We invite all local Democratic committees (ward, city and town) to hold hearings or discussions and send us platform recommendations. For example, your local committee might choose to hold Platform discussions or hearings at the conclusion of your community’s upcoming Democratic caucus. At the same time. we are planning a series of regional hearings (from January to March).

You can help to ensure that the final Massachusetts Democratic Platform is a dynamic document, expressing our belief that government plays a positive role in the lives of the governed.

In commenting on the Massachusetts Democratic Platform,, please consider the following:

Format: do you favor the current format or would you prefer a shorter document reflecting core Democratic values?

Planks: Please tell us if you would like to eliminate, amend or add
planks to the platform.

If you are not a member of a local Democratic organization, but are a registered Democrat, we invite you to participate in the Platform process by reading the party platform online at massdems.org and sending or e-mailing your comments to:

platform05@massdems.org.

You may write to:

The Platform Committee c/o
The Massachusetts Democratic Party
10 Granite Street
Quincy, MA 02169

All submissions should be received no later than March tenth.

You are the Massachusetts Democratic Party. We want Massachusetts Democrats to feel their party platform defines their reasons for being Democrats. Clearly, not every Democrat will agree with every other Democrat on every issue. Nonetheless, we want to produce a document that best represents Democratic ideals and goals.

Please join us in developing our 2005 Massachusetts Democratic Platform.

Thank you for your participation,

Best wishes to you all,

Martina Jackson,
Chair
Massachusetts Democratic Platform Committee
