Throughout his life in public service, Joe DeNucci has earned a reputation for integrity, independence and compassion.   He has been the Auditor of the Commonwealth since 1987. As State Auditor, he has made state government more accountable and more responsive to the people of Massachusetts. His audits have identified more than $2 billion in cost savings and revenue enhancement opportunities. Before being elected Auditor, Joe DeNucci served as a State Representative from Newton and Waltham for ten years, including six years as House Chairman of the Committee on Human Services and Elderly Affairs. His compassion and concern for the young, the old and those most in need of services from government resulted in laws to fight child abuse and neglect, establish a foster care review system, provide better nutrition for children, fight homelessness and prevent abuse of the elderly. Prior to his election to public office, Joe DeNucci was a well-known professional boxer who was ranked among the world's top middleweights. Joe and his wife Barbara reside in Newton and have five children and 12 grandchildren.
