Minutes of 02/04/2006 Business Meeting: Attendees: 41(see below)
Excused members: Sally Chapdelaine, Mary Francis, June Michaels, Bernie Koechlin and Mary Sibbalds.
At 1:15pm Chair Sheinwald called the business meeting to order. Treasurer Pat Koechlin presented her report including the income and expenses for last week’s successful fundraising Pasta Dinner. Net profit totals for the dinner: $1141.56. Our treasury currently has climbed to $34??. Pat also announced that dues for 2006 are now payable and will be sending out notices.
Dan Lauzon addressed the Committee and requested that a volunteer from Rockport attend meetings of the North Shore Coalition (17 cities/towns in this state senatorial district) in Ipswich. Ann-Patrice Hickey volunteered to represent the Rockport Committee and Rhonda Cohen expressed interest in attending as well. Dan also discussed the need for the Rockport Committee to take action to increase the number of registered Democrats among the unregistered and registered “U’s” of the district. All senate district delegates will be invited to attend a “meet the candidates” event on April 27th at Ipswich Town Hall.

At 1:28 p.m. Chair Sheinwald called the caucus to order at the Rockport Library to elect delegates/alternates to the 2006 Democratic State Convention. Rockport is entitled to 5 delegates & 2 alternates to the 2006 State Convention on June 2-3 at the Worchester Centrum in Worchester, MA. This year there has been a change and the Committee’s chair, as an ex-officio delegate, will be included in the delegate count, leaving 4 delegates to elect.
Placed in nomination for delegates-women were: Helen Rush-Lloyd (Deval Patrick), June McCloy (Tom Reilly), Ann-Patrice Hickey (Deval Patrick), Rhonda Cohen (leaning toward Deval Patrick), and Phyllis Kaplan (Deval Patrick and Andrea Silbert). After addresses (some short, some shorter) by each delegate and a paper ballot, candidates, Ann-Patrice Hickey and Helen Rush-Lloyd, receiving 36 and 27 votes respectively, were elected delegates-women
Placed in nomination for delegates-men were: Jim McCloy (Tom Reilly), Tom Delaney (Deval Patrick), David Wise (Deval Patrick), and Harold Rush-Lloyd (Deval Patrick). Candidates addressed the caucus audience and after a paper ballot, Tom Delaney and Harold Rush-Lloyd were elected delegates-men.
Placed in nomination for alternate-women were: Ruth Perrault and Rhoda Cohen. After a paper ballot, Ruth was elected alternate-women.
Placed in nomination for alternate-men was: David Wise (Deval Patrick). David was elected alternate-men.
Chair Ann Sheinwald will also attend the Convention as ex-officio, as will State Committee Member (also Rockport Town Committee Member) Dan Lauzon.
The caucus was adjourned at 3:05pm.
