Rockport Democratic Town Committee

Minutes of 02/12/2005 Business Meeting: Attendees: 23(see below)

At 1:10pm Chair Sheinwald called the business meeting to order. Since both the Treasurer, Pat Koechlin, and long time Member, Nan Chase, are incapacitated, Pat from hip surgery and Nan from her long battle with cancer, cards are available for anyone to write best wishes and sign.

Next, Ann-Patrice Hickey was given the floor to update us on the Bill of Rights Committee activities. A resolution will be presented before the Rockport Spring Town Meeting concerning returned certain power to the people which the USA Patriot Act removed. The movie, “Unconstitutional” by Robert Greenwood will be shown on March 2 at either the Rockport Public Library or the Community House. The petition to place the resolution before the Spring Town Meeting is available for signatures - 10 are needed.

Substituting for the treasurer, Ann Sheinwald prepared and presented a report on the income and expenses for last week’s fundraising Pasta Dinner. As of 2/12/05, gross receipts totals $1496, and expenses $664.05. Profit thus far totals $831.95. As of 2/11/05, the checking account balance totaled $2408.79, however some reimbursement checks were paid out today, so the total as of today may be a little less. (The secretary notes that additional monies have been received for the pasta dinner subsequent to the Chair’s report.) Rose McMullen suggested that the price of the dinner be increased a few dollars since the price had not been changed since the first year of the dinner (6 years ago) and prices have increased for food and supplies. June Michaels made a motion to increase the price to $14, which was seconded, and a vote was taken. The majority of the Committee voted affirmatively. Bobbie Paine pointed out that this may not be considered a “regular” meeting and Nancy Ebeling agreed that this matter could be taken up again closer to next year’s dinner. It was agreed that the price for the Pasta Dinner would be discussed and perhaps changed back to $12 at a meeting later this year.
