Minutes of 01/24/2004 Caucus: Attendees: (32) + 1 unenrolled observer

Members - ViceChair Tom Delaney, Ann Sheinwald, Rose McMullen, Pat Koechlin, Sally Chapdelaine, Bernard Koechlin, Ruth Perrault, Mary Sibbalds, James Collins, Tanner Cronin, Laura Dickey, David Wise, Josh-Brackett, Helen Rush-Lloyd, Harold Rush-Lloyd, Ruth Gillies, Dan Lauzon, June McCloy, Jim McCloy, Nancy Delaney, Mary Curran, Vernice Gaietto, Sally Chapdelaine, & Mary Francis.

Enrolled Democrats - Ann-Patrice Hickey, Maureen Dwinell, Isabel Natti, Martha Morgan, Kathy Martinez, Pat Watson, Lois Lundell, Lois Dagle

Unenrolled voter observer (caucus nonvoter): Carol Gaudette


At 1:20 p.m. ViceChair Delaney called the caucus to order at the Rockport Library to elect delegates/alternates to the 2004 Democratic State Convention. Rockport is entitled to 5 delegates & 5 alternates to the 2004 State Convention on May 11 at UMASS in Amherst, MA.

 

Placed in nomination for delegates-men were: Jim McCloy, Dan Lauzon, and Tom Delaney. Tom Delaney withdrew as a candidate for delegate and since Rockport is entitled to 2 delegates-men, both Jim McCloy & Dan Lauzon were elected delegates-men unanimously.


Placed in nomination for delegates-women were: Helen Rush-Lloyd, June McCloy, Ann-Patrice Hickey, and Sally Chapdelaine. Sally Chapdelaine withdrew as a candidate for delegate. After short introductions by each delegate candidate, Helen Rush-Lloyd and June McCloy (each receiving 21 votes) were elected delegates-women.

 

Ann-Patrice Hickey (who received 20 votes in the close race for delegate-women) was voted unanimously delegate-other.


Placed in nomination for alterate-men was Tom Delaney. He was elected unanimously.


Placed in nomination for alternate-women were Sally Chapdelaine and Lois Lundell. Both were elected unanimously. Chair Ann Sheinwald will also attend the Convention as ex-officio.


After the vote for delegates and alternates was completed, a short discussion follow the caucus concerning the upcoming election on March 2 of a vacancy on the State Committee for which Dan Lauzon is running. Dan addressed the meeting, advising of his focus for his campaign.


Isabel Natti & Kathy Martinez also addressed the meeting concerning their hopes for the upcoming presidential primary.


An pitch for help for the upcoming Pasta Dinner fundraiser was made and several people offered their services.


Josh Brackett suggested that the Committee help pay for overnight lodging for the delegates and alternates of the 2004 Convention in Amherst. This will be discussed further at the upcoming March/April Rockport Democratic Town Committee meeting.


The caucus and meeting were adjourned at 3pm.
