Canvass Near You: Be Part of Grassroots Campaigning
The value of grassroots work in a campaign is backed up by the math. The impact of a strong grassroots campaign can be a 3-6% boost in the final polls. If we used the 2008 turnout numbers. where almost 3 million Massachusetts voters came to the polls, that would mean 90,000 -180,000 more votes for Elizabeth Warren! In the 2010 Special Election, Scott Brown won by only 110,000 votes. In 2012, we can win back that margin by building out our grassroots campaign today. With only 50 more votes per precinct, we can overtake that margin in 2012. If we engage with our friends and neighbors, door-by-door, street-by-street, and neighborhood-by-neighborhood, we can win back the United States Senate seat and reelect President Obama.
This weekend many events are taking place all across the Commonweath. Below is a list alphabetically by towns. If you need more information on one of the canvasses listed below, call our office at 617-939-0800 and we can plug you into any of them with the direct organizers!

Quick Tips for you Canvassing
- Work in pairs when possible for safety, support, and fun
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing
- As always when canvassing any neighborhood, if you aren’t comfortable walking up to a particular house, skip it. Remember, safety first.
- Make sure you have a script, and be familiar with what you are saying. Practice it a few times before canvassing.
The most important thing to remember is that you are making a difference just talking to a voter! You want to get an ID and recruit as many volunteers as possible, but even if a voter remains undecided or is supporting the opponent, your conversation makes an impact on the future of the campaign. All information is valuable information! Supporter or opponent, each contact is another building block in creating the necessary votes to win.
“Decades ago, as a community organizer, I learned that the real work of democracy begins far from the closed doors and marbled halls of Washington, it begins on street corners, and front porches, in living rooms, in meeting halls with ordinary Americans who see the world as it is and realize that we have within our power to remake the world as it should be.
It’s with that hope that we began this journey. The hope that if we could go block by block, city by city, state by state and build a movement that spanned race and region, party and gender – if we could give young people a reason to vote, and the young at heart a reason to believe again, if we could inspire a nation to come together, then we could turn the page on the politics that have shut us out, let us down and told us to settle, we could write a new chapter in the American Story.
We were told this wasn’t possible, we were told the climb was too steep, we were told our country was too cynical, that we were just being naïve, that we couldn’t really change the world as it is, but then a few people in Iowa stood up and said yes we can. And then a few more of you stood up, from the hills of New Hampshire to the coast of South Carolina. And then a few million of you stood up from Savannah to Seattle, from Boise to Baton Rouge.
…because of you, because of a movement you built that stretches from Vermont’s green mountains to the streets of San Antonio, we can stand up with confidence and clarity to say that we are turning the page and we are ready to write the next great chapter in America’s story.”
